Health
Welcome to the Australian Development Gateway Health section.
While life expectancy at birth in less developed countries has increased by 20 years since 1950 to 61 years due to preventive health measures and improved medical technology, increasing rates of cancer, kidney failure, eye diseases, diabetes, mental illness and chronic degenerative illnesses will require strong health care systems.
Global infant mortality has been reduced by 50% in the last 50 years. Nevertheless, many health issues described in this section could have been prevented or better controlled if national health systems had been stronger and better prepared. Follow the links below for contemporary, practical knowledge and tools to assist health practitioners, including a wide range of economic, social, technological, political and environmental topics relating to international health development.
